Building a friendshop with someone in poverty will have a
life-changing effect on both Ally and Leader
Allies
Assist a Circle Leader in achieving his or her life goals to leave poverty behind by forming an “intentional friendship” within the matched Circle. Upon completion of the required Basic and Ally Trainings, the Circle Ally commitment is 6–10 hours per month with Circles and your Circle Leader for a minimum of 18 months. Allies are expected to attend the Matched Circles Meetings (the first and third week of the month) and communicate with their matched Circle Leaders weekly through phone calls, emails, or texts. A hot, nutritious meal is provided at each weekly meeting for all of the Leaders and volunteers, including Allies.
Hospitality Team
Assist with identifying and securing a no-cost meeting space for approximately 100-150 people, set-up and tear down the space for weekly meals and meetings (including AV), and welcome/register people as they come into the weekly meetings. Upon completion of the required Basic Training, the time commitment is three hours per week in the evening from 5:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
Meals Team
Solicit meal donations, schedule and serve the weekly meals, and clean up the kitchen each week. May occasionally have to cook meals if there is no meals donor that week. Upon completing the required Basic Training, the time commitment is three hours per week in the evening from 5:15 p.m. -8:15 p.m. at the weekly meeting. In addition, time may be needed to shop for groceries and supplies and cook menu items. All expenses are reimbursed.
Children's Program
Staff the program with volunteers or paid workers, organize the children into age groups, ensure the children are safe and engaged, and learn and teach them the curriculum provided by Circles USA. The time commitment is two hours per week in the evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the weekly meetings, in addition to any lesson plan prep time. All Children’s Program volunteers are required to complete Basic Training and a Background Check and are provided a free dinner at the weekly meetings.
Become a Circle Ally
A Circle Ally is a person who volunteers to assist a Circle Leader in achieving his or her goals to leave poverty. Allies and Circle Leaders have an intentional friendship. Each Circle Leader is assigned two Allies.

Join a Resource Team
A Resource Team is a group of community volunteers who serve on the five teams that support each Circles community.
What are Resource Teams?
Recruitment Team
Recruit Circle Leaders, Allies, and other volunteers, as well as designate a Marketing Coordinator for the chapter and represent Circles at community events, and host information sessions. Upon completion of the required Basic Training, the time commitment varies and is usually done on an as-needed basis.
Social Services Team
Identify existing community services that might support Circle Leaders (especially during the “Cliff Effect”), compile a directory, and develop working relationships with key contacts at social service agencies for referrals and partnerships. Upon completion of the required Basic Training, the time commitment varies and is usually upon request.
Jobs & Education Team
Support Circle Leaders in their employment and educational goals and assist them in searching for jobs and preparing for interviews. Upon completion of the required Basic Training, the time commitment varies and is usually upon request.
Big View Team
Organize monthly Big View meetings and encourage Circle Leaders to share the barriers they face, help the group prioritize the barriers that the chapter will tackle, and invite policy makers and community members to join the discussion and work toward resolving these barriers. Upon completion of the required Basic Training, Big View Team members are expected to attend one weekly meeting per month, as well as organize the presentation or guest speaker for that night.

Circles USA works at national and local levels to reduce poverty. A Circles USA chapter gathers people who are motivated to move out of poverty and matches them with middle-income and high-income volunteers who can support and encourage them on their journey.
